Know before you go
Fagan Park is 55 hectares of gardens, lawns and bush in Galston, looked after by Hornsby Shire Council. The Gardens of Many Nations give you a new backdrop every few minutes, from a Japanese garden to a Mediterranean one, and the old homestead and farm sheds add a bit of history. It’s easy with little ones too, with sealed paths, a playground and toilets.

The light
Late afternoon, before the gates close
The gates close in the early evening (6:30pm in daylight saving and 5:30pm otherwise, last we checked), which is before sunset in summer. So summer sessions start earlier, and the rest of the year we can stay for golden hour right up to closing.
Getting there
Fagan Park is on Arcadia Road in Galston, just north of Dural, on the semi-rural edge of the Hills.

Good to know
“I just said to my mum that i was so worried it was going to be a disaster but you always manage to make them stunning!”
- Why Fagan Park?
- Variety. In one session we can move from open lawn to a shady garden path to an old farm shed, so your gallery doesn’t look like it was all taken in one spot.
- What if it’s busy?
- Weekends can be, especially in spring. The park is big enough that we can usually find a quiet corner, and weekday evenings are calmer.
- Is there a best season?
- Spring for blossom and autumn for colour in the gardens. Summer is green and lush, but we start earlier because of the gate times.
Close to home in Dural.
