Know before you go
Rouse Hill Regional Park is a NSW National Parks regional park with wide grassland, patches of old woodland and a big adventure playground. It’s one of the places we photograph families most, because there’s room to wander and the sunset comes in low across the grass.

The light
The hour before sunset
The park is open until 8pm from September to April and 6pm from May to August (last we checked), so most of the year we can stay right through golden hour. In the height of summer sunset can run past closing, so we plan around it.
Getting there
The main entrance is off Worcester Road, a few minutes from Rouse Hill Town Centre and the Metro.

Good to know
“The entire experience felt so natural and she made us feel at ease (especially our son Gabriel who had the best time looking for ducks, finding pine cones and ‘going on a bear hunt’).”
- Is it too exposed on a hot day?
- Out in the open it can be. In summer we start in the shade of the trees and move onto the grass as the sun drops.
- Can the kids have a play first?
- Please do. Time on the playground before we start is the best warm-up there is, and it gives Angela a chance to say hi.
- What if the park closes for the weather?
- National Parks can close it on high fire danger or wild weather days. If that happens, we’ll work out another date or spot with you.
